Nature Box
An exploratory experience
Congratulations! You are now ready to explore your local environment through the Nature Box experience – a creative and science-based game developed by Norges Miljøvernforbund and Association Funamboli – ReMida Bologna.
Learn more about nature, species and plasticpollution in a practical and engaging manner.
The game handbook and Identitycards can be downloaded on the final slide.
What is it?
The Nature Box is not a typical game with right or wrong answers. It is an exploratory learning experience where you use your senses, curiosity, and scientific thinking to understand the nature around you.
Through three simple steps, you go from observing the world as it is to understanding how nature and human impact are connected – and what we ourselves can do to take better care of it.
This is how you do it
The Nature Box consists of a simple, hands-on process where you build, explore, and document findings from your local environment.
First, you create the Nature Box – a box that will contain everything you collect and work with. Then you go out into your local area and explore the nature around you.
Natural elements and human-made objects are collected, photographed, or drawn. Each finding is documented using identity cards, so that observations, characteristics, and knowledge are gathered in one place.
Nature Box
The Nature Box can be built from wood/cardboard yourself, or it can be a used box, suitcase, or container.
Recommended dimensions: approximately 40–48 cm long, 24–30 cm wide, 15–19 cm deep.
These dimensions are just suggestions that we believe will give you the best Nature Box experience.
Identitycards
The identity cards are used to document your findings in a simple and structured way – for both natural elements and plastic.
Each finding gets its own card, where you record observations, characteristics, origin, and any impact on nature and animals.
Become and explorer
Go out into your local area and collect natural and man-made elements. You can bring actual findings – or document them with photos or drawings.
Explore alone, in pairs, or in groups. Recommended time: 15–20 minutes.
Become a scientist
Sort your findings in natural and artificial elements. Chose one object at a time and make an identity card.
Use books, apps and onlineresources to find correct information.
Make the connections
How can we prevent plastic pollution and poor waste management?
Use the identity cards to connect nature and plastic – and discuss solutions together.
Share & Inspire
Display the Nature Box and the class poster at school. Share photos and reflections – and let others be inspired by your exploration.
