Landfill for hazardous waste

The Norwegian Environment Protection Association together with Vern om Grenland campaigned on Tuesday against the plans for a hazardous waste landfill during the Prime Minister's visit to the nursing home in Brevik. In a letter dated 27 March 2018, the Norwegian Environmental Protection Association has demanded that the State, through the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Statsbygg, take over responsibility for the construction and operation of any future landfill at a suitable location.

Furthermore, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency sees reduced burning of waste and recycling of sulfuric acid as an important basis for partially reducing the need for landfill in the long term, says regional manager for the Environmental Protection Agency Jan-Hugo Holten, who was present in Brevik on Tuesday.
